Asylum's eyes widened the second Venturian mentioned going to Anvil. He could go home! He could see his friends again! He could finally be happy again! He was so excited to see everyone again, especially after missing them so much.

He had told Sigrid all about his adventures in Cyrodiil as they traveled, and that only made him miss everyone even more. He missed Mimi and her flowers, he missed Jerry with his bones and strange back-from-the-dead abilities, he missed Kajsa being a sweet little troll.. Heck, he even missed Lena smacking people senseless.

He missed Sari.

Oh, by the Nine, how he missed Sari.

He had seen her for a while during his adventures with Sigrid, but then she just left. He hoped dearly that she was okay. He just wanted to give her a hug or something.

When the time finally came for them to visit Anvil, Asylum was as giddy as he used to get when he had found grapes. He closed his eyes as Venturian did his thing, and when he opened them again he found himself back on the docks of Anvil.

He heard Venturian through his mind. “This looks almost exactly like I remember!” the voice laughed.

Asylum nodded, grinning and beginning to walk down the dock. His pet lizard, whom Venturian had nicknamed ‘Little Lizard Thingy that I Haven't Named’, followed close behind him. They needed to get on with naming the poor creature, honestly. Asylum knew his way around Anvil, even after all the time he had been away. He soon made it to the gates and entered, looking around. Things were the same, but somehow they were different.

Some of the buildings around town weren't as deteriorated as he remembered. The atmosphere of the town just seemed different, too. It was strange, but it was home. Venturian was talking to Jessica, the voice in Sigrid’s head, but Asylum had tuned them out. He couldn't even hear Jessica, so he just tuned out Jordan's rambling as he had always.

His heart was pounding as he ran through the town, towards where his house was. As he approached, though, he couldn't believe his eyes.

His house wasn't there. Why wasn't his house there?

He calmed down slightly, thinking he was just in the wrong part of town. He looked around to get his bearings.

The place where that strange man talked about the Nine was on the right. The chapel was across the street as well.

Just like it was when he lived there.

He was in the exact spot his house was at, but his house wasn't there. Instead, there was some sort of shop.

Asylum laughed to himself. This was probably just a trick by his friends to scare him! If he went inside the ‘store’, his friends would be right there as normal!

Wouldn't they?

Asylum was worried. Sigrid had caught up with him by this point, and was confused. Asylum stepped inside the store.

His heart broke.

There was actually a store inside instead of his home.

He looked around, hoping there was at least some sign of his friends around. He longed to see Jerry standing in a doorway to greet people, to hear Lena slashing away at Sari while Sari didn't even care. He wanted to see his friends again.

He needed to see them again.

Sigrid looked around, confused. She asked Asylum about the place, but Asylum was frozen. He couldn't move. He felt like he couldn't breathe. He was shaking. It wasn't long before he started to cry silently.

He thought he was finally going to go home and be able to be happy again. He thought he was finally going to get a proper happy ending surrounded by his friends…

… But all he got was a broken heart.
That one part of the last ESO stream where Asylum went back to Anvil really got my angst senses tingling.. So here, have a pirate boy wanting to go home. You're welcome.
